Admissions

Admissions Information

Primary Schools will contact families of Year 5 children in June and provide you with information on how to apply for a secondary school place. In March of Year 6, you will be offered a place at a secondary school. At this point, George Pindar School will contact all families who have been offered a place with them for the following September.

A catchment area is an area around a single school. The catchment school is allocated by the local authority from the geographical area your address is in. George Pindar School usually feeds from a set catchment area that, as a general guide, includes children who live in areas served by the following schools:

  • Braeburn Primary School
  • Cayton Community Primary School
  • Overdale Community Primary School
  • Seamer & Irton Community Primary School
  • Wheatcroft Community Primary School

Your catchment school is determined by your home address, rather than the primary school your child attends. The LA school admissions team can advise you on the catchment school for your postal address.

Published Admission Number

The planned number of places (PAN) for the coming September is 150.

Policies

In-year admissions

Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme

George Pindar School participates in the Local Authority’s Co-ordinated Admission Scheme for in-year admissions. If parents/carers wish to apply for a school place, applications can be made at: https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/apply-place-primary-or-secondary-school

Appeals

The Heartwood Learning Trust Board have determined their admissions arrangements for the academic year.

Following determination of arrangements, any objections to those arrangements must be made to the Schools Adjudicator. Objections to admission arrangements must be referred to the Schools Adjudicator by 15th May in the determination year.

Please follow this link to object to the schools adjudicator regarding a school’s admission arrangements: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/objection-to-school-admission-arrangements

Email: osa.team@schoolsadjudicator.gov.uk

Post: OSA, Bishopsgate House, Feethams, Darlington, DL1 5QE

You can object to the schools adjudicator because you consider a school’s admission arrangements:

If your concerns are about the admission arrangements for a year other than the current academic year, make it clear to which year’s arrangements you are referring.

Right to appeal

By law, if your child is refused a place at your preferred school, you have the right to appeal against that decision to an independent panel.
